The MWTS-II instrument is a self-calibrating total-power passive microwave radiometer which has been manufactured by the Xi'an department of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
The MWTS-II is a cross-track scanner and executes one complete revolution every 8/3 second period. During every revolution, the MWTS-II scans 90 Earth Field of Views (FOVs) with nadir resolution of 33 km.
The MWTS-II measures the Earth’s radiation at 13 channels with frequencies between 50~60GHz, which is used for temperature sounding from the surface to about 6 hPa.
The MWTS-II are capable of penetrating into the precipitating cloud so as to provide all-weather temperature profile information, which are very important for numerical weather forecast, disaster monitoring, and climate changes.
